Craig B. Pheiffer
Craig Pheiffer studied at the University of the Witwatersrand and Unisa graduating with a BSc Computer Science (Wits), BCom - Economics, BCom Hons - Economics and MCom (cum laude) - Economics (Unisa). His master’s dissertation on “Capital Flight from Middle Income Countries” won the Economic Society of South Africa’s Founders medal for the best dissertation in 2000. From 2001 to 2003 Craig studied towards and completed the requirements for the internationally recognised Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter. He is currently a member of the Investment Analysts Society of South Africa and the CFA Institute. Craig was employed in 1990 by Sasfin Frankel Pollak Securities as a Systems Analyst in the Fixed Income Division and a year later he became a Fixed Income Portfolio Advisor and dealer on the open outcry Bond Trading Floor. From 1993 to 2000 he was variously involved in Institutional Bond Sales, Primary Dealing and Market Making for the Fixed Income Division (for a short period with Société Générale). In 2000 Craig was appointed Chief Investment Strategist at Sasfin Frankel Pollak Securities and was the director responsible for investment strategy and research. In July 2007 Craig was appointed Head: Private Client Asset Management of Absa Asset Management Private Clients, one of the business units within Absa Investments, the investment arm of Absa Financial Services. In 2016 Craig was appointed Chief Investment Strategist of Absa Stockbrokers and Portfolio Management (SPM) following the merger of Absa Stockbrokers and Absa Portfolio Managers within the Absa Wealth Investment Management and Insurance (WIMI) cluster. He is a Key Individual and Representative on the SPM Financial Services Provider (FSP) licence, an Exco member of Wealth Management and a director of Fradey Nominees, SPM’s nominee holding company. Prior to the merger that created SPM, Craig was a director of Absa Portfolio Managers (Pty) Ltd.
