End of the year studying tips

12 October 2018

Your final exams are around the corner. This is an important time on your varsity calendar, because you have to start getting ready to study for those stressful final exams you’ve probably been dreading the whole year. We’ve put together five very helpful study tips to get you exam-ready.

End of the year studying tips

1.    Forget about your phone for a little while

Let’s face it, we are all totally dependent on our cellphones. The truth is, your phone can be a big distraction, especially when you are studying. It’s so easy for you to get carried away when chatting to friends or getting lost on your social pages for hours without realising it. To avoid all of this, just put your phone away.

2.   Organise your study space

Where you study is very important. You need to make sure that there’s enough space for all of your study materials. Make sure you have enough light, a comfortable chair and your favourite study tunes in the background. Anything you think might be a distraction should be out of sight.

3.    Take a brain break every 45 minutes

Fact: the brain is only able to stay truly focused for around 45 minutes before it starts losing concentration. To study better, it is highly advised that you take a 15-minute break every 45 minutes and go for a walk, talk to a friend or maybe even make yourself a healthy snack, just to give your brain a break.

4.   Get lots of sleep and exercise

Believe it or not, studies have shown that exercise really boosts your memory. Do yourself a huge favour and try incorporating exercise into your studying routine. Pairing exercise with a good eight hours of sleep can actually get you those distinctions you want so badly. And of course a healthy diet helps too.

5.    Focus on your studies not your finances

Nothing brings with it more sleepless nights than financial woes.  And, right now, if you’re not sleeping it should be because of studying, not money.
